First Official 10K by CRG – Setting the benchmarks

If you ask anyone in Gandhinagar what they were up to on the cozy morning of 8th September 2024, they would probably say they were tucked in bed, enjoying a lazy Sunday morning. But for a group of around 60 runners and 20 volunteers from Capital Runners Gandhinagar (CRG), the morning was far more than just enjoyable — it was unforgettable.

On this day, CRG organized its first official 10K run. For each runner, the experience brought something truly special.

As a community of running enthusiasts, CRG had until then conducted fairly casual group runs. The idea behind this timed 10K was to give runners a taste of what it takes to participate in an official, timed event. Adding to the significance, a donation drive for stationery and educational materials was held to mark World Shiksha Divas. To promote sustainability, runners were provided with reusable, customized bibs.

Focusing on the Runner Experience

The goal of the organizers was to provide the highest standard of facilities. Since this event was by the runners, for the runners, everything was thoughtfully designed and intuitive. Hydration support was available at regular intervals, and beyond that, the vocal encouragement from volunteers helped many achieve their personal best (PB) records.

The race began with a cheerful briefing, where the most important rule was simple: have as much fun as possible!

The Race Unfolds

The group’s previous long runs had prepared them well for this challenge. The runners started steadily, gradually picking up a comfortable pace. As they moved along the beautiful route through the green city of Gandhinagar, many found their rhythm and shifted gears as they felt stronger.

Friendly banter filled the air. Those aiming for a podium finish began pushing harder, while most runners continued at a comfortable pace, pausing at hydration points — after all, who wanted to miss out on the goodies?

One by one, each runner crossed the finish line to a rousing cheer from volunteers and fellow runners. Every finisher was greeted with applause louder than the one before, creating an electric atmosphere of celebration.

Celebration and Recognition

What better moment to break into song and dance? The cool-down session became a joyful blend of recovery and entertainment.

The most awaited part of the event saw podium finishers in each category step onto the stage to collect their prizes. The results brought surprises and revealed hidden talent within CRG.

Every runner was felicitated with a unique, eco-friendly medal crafted from coconut shell — a medal sure to stand out in any collection. Just like that distinctive medal, this run created memories that will remain special for a long time to come.
